The English 1 course will cover the following units over the course of the year.

Novel - To Kill A Mockingbird
Epic - The Odyssey
Novel - Animal Farm
Play - Romeo and Juliet
Short Stories
Poetry
*House on Mango Street - possible*

In addition to the units being covered, the students will have vocabulary throughout the
year and will be quizzed on a weekly basis. They will also work on grammar, essay
structure and format, and will have journals each month they must respond to.

They will work on the following forms of writing:

Expository
Persuasive
Narrative
Descriptive
On Demand

Students are expected to be in class each day, prepared with paper, pen, pencil, their
journal, and appropriate books for the units being studied.


We will be working to improve writing and reading skills, understand and implement study
strategies and time management skills, and foster responsibility.
